About Michael Reiter

Michael Reiter is a former Chief of Police for the Town of Palm Beach and the President of Michael Reiter and Associates. During his 28 years with the Palm Beach Police Department, including eight years as Chief, he led complex investigations, managed high-profile public safety issues, and worked closely with local, state, and federal partners. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Harvard Kennedy School’s Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government, and has earned a Master of Science in Human Resource Development. Michael Reiter’s career also included participation on the Executive Board of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and long-standing involvement in civic and public safety leadership. Michael Reiter is best known publicly for initiating and leading the Palm Beach Police Department’s investigation of Jeffrey Epstein. What began as a local investigation exposed a much larger pattern of victimization, institutional failure, and protection afforded to a powerful offender. As the case developed, he sought stronger prosecution, requested arrest warrants for Epstein and co-conspirators, asked for recusal by the local State Attorney, and referred the matter to the FBI. The efforts resulted in Epstein's conviction and designation as a sexual offender. The consequences of the case have continued to reverberate through the justice system, government, financial institutions, academia, philanthropy, media, and among many prominent individuals connected directly or indirectly to Epstein. Most importantly, the case remains a profound example of how vulnerable victims can be failed when systems defer to wealth, influence, and reputation. Since leaving government service, he has led Michael Reiter and Associates in advising private clients, institutions, civic organizations, and high-profile properties on security strategy, threat assessment, crisis response, investigative matters, and protective planning. The company’s work reflects a practical, judgment-based approach to helping organizations protect people, manage risk, and respond responsibly when consequences are high. Michael Reiter believe effective public safety depends on judgment, integrity, preparation, and the willingness to challenge systems when they fail. His current work brings together decades of law enforcement leadership, investigative experience, institutional knowledge, and a commitment to helping organizations protect people, manage risk, and act responsibly when clients are under stress and major consequences threaten.
